Environmental Assessment for Taxiway C Extension and VOR Relocation

Record of Decision and Final Environmental Assessment

Read the Finding of No Significant Impact and the Record of Decision (PDF).

Draft
Notice is Given that a DRAFT Environmental Assessment (EA), prepared by Broward County, the owner and operator of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), is available for public review. The DRAFT EA evaluates proposed projects at FLL that include the relocation of the Very High Frequency Omni-directional Radio-range (VOR) and the extension of Taxiway C. Taxiway C would be extended approximately 2,100 feet from the intersection with Taxiway D east to Taxiway Q and intersecting with Taxiway T5 and Taxiway S through to Taxiway T4 to complete the duel parallel taxiway system. The VOR would initially be relocated to a temporary site on the west side of the airfield located south of Runway end 9L. The VOR would be seated on a mobile platform at this temporary site. The existing VOR would be demolished and the new VOR at the permanent location would then be constructed. The proposed permanent VOR location is adjacent to Taxiway C near the Runway 9L Threshold.

The relocation of the VOR would result in potential changes to the victor airways flown in the vicinity of FLL. No jet routes or military airways would be affected. The victor airways affected by the relocation are the V3 north to Lanch, BR68V northeast to MRLIN, BR70V east to Turbo, BR22V-57V southeast to DEKAL, and V3 southwest to Dolphin. It is assumed that no approach/departure procedures would change at FLL, or at any other airport. The Draft EA evaluates the economic, social and environmental impacts of the proposed projects at FLL. Based on the environmental analysis, no significant impacts were identified, only minor or temporary impacts are anticipated to occur as a result of implementation of the proposed projects.

The Draft EA was available for public review beginning July 2, 2010, at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Aviation Office, 100 Aviation Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL  33315, 954-359-6100 or view the Taxiway C Extension and VOR Relocation Environmental Assessment (PDF)

Broward County accepted public comments on the Draft EA until July 16, 2010.
