Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Sunview Park

Sunview Park in Fort Lauderdale will host a Sweet Heart Dance for ages 12 to 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14. This free dance will include music, dancing, refreshments, socializing and more. Preregistration is required by calling the park at 954-791-1040. Sunview Park is located at 1500 S.W. 42nd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale and is accessible via Broward County Transit Routes #18, #30, and 441 Breeze.
Valentine's Day Speed Dating at Miramar Branch Library

Looking for love? Join hip hop dating coach “Yo Jeff” at a special Valentine’s Day Singles Social and Speed Dating event at 6 p.m., February 14 at Miramar Branch Library, 2050 Civic Center Place. Yo Jeff brings his exciting approach to speed dating by offering a fun, non-traditional twist on finding Mr. or Ms. Right. Participants will learn about the “hip hop” dating formula, including tips on how to date without drama and how to get the most out of speed dating. Animal Care and Adoption to Host Valentine's Day Events

Pet lovers will have a lot to celebrate as Broward County Animal Care and Adoption offers several ways to show your love and support of homeless pets this Valentine’s Day.
• Saturday, February 11, get a special Valentine picture taken with your furry friend. Bring your dog or cat, along with the kids, to the Fort Lauderdale Adoption Center, 1870 S.W. 39th Street, to have a fun photo taken for an $8 donation. Photos will be available from noon to 2 p.m. Special Valentine refreshments will be served.
• Tuesday, February 14, annual “Adopt-A-Sweetheart” Pet Adoption event at the Broward County Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. A variety of dogs and cats will be available for adoption in the lobby from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Broward County nature centers will again offer its award-winning Nature Tots program on a monthly basis. Kids, ages 2 to 4, and their parents can join a park naturalist and learn about nature through stories, songs, arts and crafts, and more. Theme and activities vary each month, and preregistration is required. The theme for February is “Fungus.” The program will be held on February 9, at Fern Forest Nature Center in Coconut Creek and on February 23, at Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach. Bowling Program for Developmental Disabilities Population

The Special Populations Section of Broward County Parks and Recreation Division will offer Pins ’n’ Pals, a bowling program for youth and young adults ages 10 to 25 with developmental disabilities, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, at Strikers Family Sports Center in Sunrise. The fee is $5.50 for two games, which includes the use of bowling shoes if needed. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Learn About Life Along the New River at a New Historical Commission Exhibit

The exhibit, Then & Now: Life Along the New River will be on display at the Broward County Historical Commission, located at the historic West Side Grade School, beginning Monday, February 6, through April 30. The building is located at 301 Harmon (S.W. 13th) Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. This exhibit is a celebration of Fort Lauderdale’s rich past, as told through the stories of those who lived along the banks of the New River. Gallery Exhibit Features “Speaking Through Pictures: An Autism Exhibit”

The exhibit hall at the Anne Kolb Nature Center at West Lake Park hosts the free gallery exhibit “Speaking Through Pictures: An Autism Exhibit,” February 11 through March 1. The works in the exhibit are provided by Artists With Autism, a South Florida networking group that unites aspiring artists on the autism spectrum. Members create art individually and exhibit it collectively to promote micro-enterprising and autism awareness. The nature center’s exhibit hall is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge to view the art exhibit, although there is a per-person fee of $1 to tour the exhibit hall. Go Fish at the Junior Bass Tournament

Broward County Parks and Recreation Division announced that registration is now open for the latest installment of the Junior Bass Tournament Trail, for ages 12 to 17 accompanied by an adult 18 or older. Tournaments will be held on the following dates and locations:

Fishing begins at “first light” and runs till 1 p.m. Trophies and prizes will be awarded at each tournament. Bulldog Olympics at T.Y. Park

T.Y. Park in Hollywood will be the site of the 2012 Bullympics, an annual tradition that benefits the bulldog rescue group Buddies Thru Bullies at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 18. Owners will guide their bulldogs through an obstacle course, modified for the breed's unique "portly" shape. Spectators can cheer on their favorite competitor and just mingle with owners who want to brag about their bulldog. A silent auction and raffle is also scheduled. All events will take place at Pavilions 5 and 6. There is a $15 registration fee for all competitors, and spectators can watch for only the park entrance fee of $1.50 per person, free for children 5 and under. Literary Feast 2012 to Showcase 17 National Authors

The 24th edition of Literary Feast will feature unique events over four days in Broward County celebrating books and authors. The Feast will take place March 2 -5 at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center on the Davie campus of Nova Southeastern University. Among the authors to be showcased are Charles C. Mann, whose 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created is one of The New York Times 100 Notable Books of the Year; best-selling writers Bernice L. McFadden, author of Gathering of Waters, and Mary Jane Clark, author of The Look of Love. Also participating are South Florida authors Diana Abu-Jaber and Leila Cobo, executive editor for Latin content for Billboard magazine. Last year, the Broward Public Library Foundation raised over $145,000 at Literary Feast to support both children's and adult literacy programs and services for Broward County Library. More…
