- Promoting increased public/private sector collaboration
- Delivering business development initiatives focused on new investment and job growth
- Enhancing the competitiveness of Broward's business climate
- Driving regional initiatives

Amended by Ordinance #78-42, enacted September 20, 1978, providing for the membership of the board.
Amended by Ordinance #83-14, enacted April 28, 1983, eliminating the County Administrator's function in staff employment; providing for appointment of an Executive Director and staff, eliminating the fixed membership number; providing for combining the business and industrial membership groupings.
Amended by Ordinance #83-19, enacted May 19, 1983, changing the name of the Broward Industrial Board to the Broward Economic Development Board.
Amended by Ordinance #91-33, enacted September 11, 1991, redefined the duties of the Broward Economic Development Board (BEDB); provided that the BEDB shall consist of the seven members of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners; authorized the Board to designate by resolution an organization to perform certain services on behalf of the BEDB; designated said organization as the recipient of additional occupational license tax revenue.
Broward County Resolution #91-1729, adopted September 24, 1991, designating the Broward Economic Development Council BEDC, a not-for-profit Florida corporation, as the organization to implement and promote the County’s economic development strategy and plan.
Amended by Ordinance #92-03, enacted January 14, 1992, establishing a procedure for selecting the Chair and Vice-Chair of the BEDB.
In 1998, the Broward Economic Development Council changed its name to the Broward Alliance.
Agreement between Broward County and Broward Alliance, Inc., approved September 14, 2000, for administrative services. The five (5) year agreement establishes the Broward Alliance as its official public/private economic development partnership organization to implement and promote an Economic Development Strategy for Broward County.
Agreement between Broward County and Broward Alliance, Inc., approved September 25, 2005, for administrative services relating to implementation and promotion of an economic development strategy for Broward County. The term of the agreement shall be for a period of five (5) years commencing on October 1, 2005 and terminating September 30, 2010.
The Broward Alliance name was changed to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance effective December 2010.
Membership
The Board of Directors Executive Committee consists of 16 members and is structured in accordance with the provisions of its by-laws:
(1) The Board of County Commissioners shall appoint one (1) of its members as a liaison to the Broward Alliance Board of Directors and Executive Committee, annually.
(2) Other members shall, to the broadest extent practicable, reflect the wide range of business and economic development organizations within Broward County, along with the cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity of Broward County.

A majority of the members of the board.
