Purpose
Promote economic development and employment opportunities through public-private partnerships; integrate resources to facilitate job training and retraining programs to meet mid-career changes and technological advances; provide a mechanism to facilitate the acquisition, construction and establishment of a research and development park.
Created By
Chapter 94-431, Laws of Florida 1994 and Section 159.34, Florida Statutes, creating an independent special district.
Membership
Five (5) members.
(1) The Broward County Commission shall appoint three (3) members at-large who are residents and electors of, or have their principal place of employment in Board County.
(2) The School Board of Broward County shall appoint one (1) member who is a resident of Broward County or whose principal place of employment is in Broward County.
(3) The Town Council of Davie shall appoint one (1) member whose principal place of employment is in Broward County and who resides within the Town of Davie.
(4) Each participating educational institution shall designate a member to the authority who shall serve ex-officio.
DUAL OFFICEHOLDING:
The Florida Constitution prohibits a person from simultaneously holding more than one office under the government of the state, counties, and municipalities. The prohibition applies to both elected and appointed offices. It is not necessary that the two offices be within the same governmental unit.
Terms
Four (4) years.
Members shall serve until a successor is appointed. Vacancies shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term. Members shall be eligible for reappointment.
Quorum:
A majority of the members of the Authority.
