Purpose

To review, consider, develop and make recommendations to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners regarding proposals and options that may be submitted to the voters of Broward County requesting voter approval for a plan of financing, developing and construction a new courthouse facility located in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The Committee shall also evaluate and make recommendations to the Board regarding the feasibility and options of making improvements to the existing courthouse facility utilizing monies currently set aside for courthouse improvements and such other County funds as may be available.

Broward County Resolution #2008-928, adopted December 9, 2008.

Re-established by Resolution #2009-469, adopted August 9, 2009.

Amended by Broward County Resolution No. 2011-802, adopted on December 13, 2011, to add an additional member of the County Commission who shall serve as the Courthouse Liaison for the Board.

Membership

The following members shall be nominated by the Mayor subject to the approval of the Board as follows:

1) Two members of the Broward County Commission who shall serve as the Courthouse Liaisons for the Board;

2) One or more Judges from the Judiciary of the 17th Judicial Circuit of Broward County;

3) A representative from, and current employee of, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office;

4) A representative from, and current employee of, the Broward County Public Defender’s Office;

5) A representative from, and current employee of, the Broward County Clerk of the Court;

6) A representative from, and current employee of, the Broward County Office of Court Administration;

7) One or more attorneys, residing in Broward County, who are members in good standing with The Florida Bar, who are actively engaged in the practice of law with a practice that requires regular and frequent visits to the Broward County main courthouse facility;

8) One or more residents who are actively engaged in the local business community;

9) One member, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners who serves as an elected official of Broward municipalities; and

10) Such other members as may be deemed appropriate.


The Committee shall submit written reports to the Board on an as-needed basis.

Section 1-233 of Chapter 1, Article XII, Broward County Code of Ordinances, as may be amended from time to time.

Quorum

Fifty percent plus one of the total members appointed.
