Purpose

Identify, celebrate, and embrace the accomplishments of our diverse majority-minority community through increased education and communication.

Collect, analyze, and interpret information on ethnic and cultural issues and disseminate reports to the Broward County Commission and other interested groups and individuals.

Develop recommendations for addressing ethnic and cultural issues and problems affecting community relations in Broward County.

Develop and present conferences, seminars and other community programs designed to promote ethnic and cultural understanding at all levels of community life in Broward County.

Created By

Broward County Resolution #1990-1991, adopted July 3, 1990.

Amended by Resolution #1993-0165, adopted February 16, 1993, revising the number which constitutes a quorum for the board, to be effective for a period not to exceed six months.

Ordinance #1996-0028, enacted September 10, 1996, established a Multi-Ethnic Advisory Board Trust Fund.

Amended by Resolution #2001-0079, adopted February 13, 2001, reducing the membership from twenty-one to eighteen members; revising the quorum requirement; tasking the Children’s Services Administration Division to provide administrative and clerical assistance.

Amended by Resolution #2005-23, adopted January 11, 2005, changing the name from Multi-Ethnic Advisory Board to Diversity Advisory Council; redefine the purpose to more accurately reflect its functions and duties.

Amended by Resolution #2009-411, adopted June 9, 2009, amending the purposes of the Council; providing that it shall be subject to Section 1-233; stating that the Program Development, Research and Evaluation Division shall provide administrative and clerical assistance.

Membership

Eighteen (18) members.
Each Broward County Commissioner shall appoint two members.


Terms

Section 1-233 of Chapter 1, Article XII, Broward County Code of Ordinances, as may be amended from time to time.

Quorum

A majority of the total appointed board members.
