The Professional Standards Section is responsible for investigating complaints of malfeasance and misfeasance filed in good faith under the County's Whistleblower Program. The Professional Standards Section also conducts other investigations assigned by the County Administrator.

This Section assists in training County employees on the Broward County Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies in conjunction with the County Attorney's Office and the Human Resources Division.

Through the Professional Standards Section, employees are encouraged to serve the public and work with fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's ethics policies.

Protection

Employees and the general public can inform the county government administration of allegations of wrongdoing or malfeasance on the part of the county, its officers, employees, and independent contractors at the following number by calling: 954-357-7896.

The identity of persons who file written whistleblower reports of wrongdoing is protected by the section on confidentiality of the Florida State Statutes, 112.3188, as amended.

No Retaliation

Professional Standards also investigates complaints of retaliation from:

a. Employees of the County or its independent contractors who believe they have suffered adverse personnel action; and

b. Members of the public who believe they have suffered retaliation from the County or its independent contractors;

Because of their involvement in a whistleblower complaint or investigation.

There is ZERO tolerance for these types of retaliation. Persons who feel they have been subjected to such retaliation may report it to Professional Standards for investigation.
