Broward County's PPRAQD Proposing To Eliminate Stage II Vapor Recovery Controls
In May 2007, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) revised its Gasoline Vapor Control rule to eliminate the requirement of Stage II Vapor Recovery Systems for Gasoline Dispensing Facilities (GDF) and provided additional requirements for Stage I vapor recovery controls. Furthermore, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has waived the requirement to implement Stage II Vapor Recovery Systems at GDF, effective May 16, 2012. At this time, the Pollution Prevention, Remediation, and Air Quality Division (PPRAQD) proposes to revise the Broward County Code of Ordinances to eliminate the requirements of Stage II Vapor Recovery Systems. These changes will also provide for an orderly removal and decommissioning of existing Stage II Vapor Recovery Systems.
PPRAQD will conduct a workshop to solicit public comments concerning the recommended revisions to the Broward County Storage Tank Ordinance.
Date: July 9, 2012
Time: 9:00am – 11:30am
Location: Government Center West (Hearing Room 2nd floor)
1 N University Drive
Plantation, Florida
It is hoped that this workshop will result in an ordinance that will satisfy the needs of the regulated community while maintaining and further enhancing environmental protection within Broward County.
Copies of the changes to the draft ordinance will be available at the PPRAQD office, by clicking here, and at the public workshop located and listed above. We look forward to your attendance and participation at the workshop.

Broward County regulates the storage of hazardous materials in above ground and under ground storage tanks. Our authority comes from Chapter 27, Article X, Storage Tanks from the Pollution Control Code of Ordinances of Broward County, Florida.
Storage tanks regulated under this section have capacities greater than 550 gallons if they are above ground and greater than 110 gallons if they are underground. Tanks of smaller volumes are regulated under the Hazardous Material regulations.
This section manages the inspection and licensing of businesses which have storage tanks on their property to prevent contamination of our groundwater.
