The mission of Planning and Redevelopment Division is to sustain and enhance the quality of life in Broward County by promoting effective and efficient uses of urban and environmental resources through local and regional planning.

The purpose is to provide general planning services for Broward County. The primary focus is to prepare elements of the Broward County Comprehensive Plan, which includes the County's growth management and land development policies, for adoption by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.

Support activities include:

  • Evaluating public requests for land use plan amendments and land use compatibility reviews;
  • Managing the County's redevelopment initiatives;
  • Maintaining the demographic database;
  • Preparing population forecasts;
  • Maintaining the geographic information system;
  • Conducting planning, demographic, economic, and geographic research and analysis;
  • Implementing the neighborhood improvement program; and preparing residents for the eventual annexation of all unincorporated areas by the year 2010.

Research projects also are prepared at the direction of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners generally concerning growth management issues.
