Message from the Director of Purchasing

I am pleased to offer our 2010 Annual Report (PDF) which summarizes the major activities and achievements during the past fiscal year, our organizational structure, and other general information concerning our responsibilities, statutory authority, and organizational focus.

The level of service provided by the Purchasing Division continues to move at a dynamic pace.  With the changing times and economic challenges facing Broward County, we have maintained the highest level of professionalism, efficiency and fiscal responsibility in procurement practices and service to all the operational agencies of Broward County, our Board of County Commissioners and the citizens we serve.

The Purchasing Division was again recognized in Fiscal Year 2010 as one of the leaders in the State for outstanding achievement in procurement for innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership, being one of twelve Florida agencies to receive the Award of Excellence in Public Procurement and Best Practices from the Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers.

Over the past several years, the Purchasing Division held steadfast to its vision to take a close look at the procurement processes in place with the goal of quality service.  Collaborative partnerships with our client agencies have lead to the development of strategic procurement plans better meeting their needs and improving procurement efficiency, cost and operational effectiveness.

In Fiscal Year 2010, $585,182,540 in procurement awards were processed with 76% ($445,641,816) being awarded to Florida vendors, of which 71% ($315,093,306) was awarded to local Broward County vendors. In addition, over the course of this past year, staff initiatives achieved costs savings totaling $23,862,786.

As we move forward into Fiscal Year 2011, we do so with a spirit of pride to be “Our Best.  Nothing Less.” and an abiding focus on transparency, accessibility, quality and service, which we believe are important facets of our Division’s values and that of our governing Commission.
